Schultz was UAB’s top offensive performer last week, guiding the Blazers to a second consecutive weekend series sweep, the first time the Blazers have accomplished that since 2016. He recorded three multi-hit games in four contests, including a career-high three hits, along with UAB’s only two RBI in a 3-2 loss at No. 9 Mississippi State on February 20. Schultz registered eight hits in 15 at bats (.533) on the week, had two RBI in 3-of-4 games, walked twice and did not strike out in 17 plate appearances.
Powell turned in a dominant performance in the Golden Eagles 1-0 victory at No. 9 Mississippi State on February 22, shutting out the Bulldogs for 7.2 innings. He forced MSU make nine outs on first pitches and allowed just two runners to get to second base in the contest. Powell also retired the side three times on the day and did not walk a batter, while scattering five hits. While he did not register a decision, he went toe-to-toe with Bulldog starter Ethan Small by tossing an equal amount of scoreless innings in the pitcher’s duel that saw a combined 20 strikeouts and just two walks with only 10 hits allowed in 72 plate appearances.
