Sanford batted .333 with a 1.000 slugging percentage in four games last week with three home runs, eight runs scored and eight runs batted in.  He scored at least one run in each game and homered in the win at Austin Peay, before producing a career-best performance in the series-clinching win at FIU.  In the Sunday’s 15-1, run-rule victory, Sanford went 3-for-5 with a pair of three-run home runs, one double, five runs scored and seven runs batted in.  His five runs scored were the most by a WKU player since 2010 and his seven RBI were the most since 2009.  During the week, he added three outfield assists and nine put-outs from his right field position.
Allen pitched another gem on Friday night against WKU, going 8.2 innings without allowing an earned run in his fourth straight start.  His 11-strikeout performance is his fourth double digit 10+ strikeout outing of the season.  Allen allowed one unearned run on five hits to improve to 3-1 on the season, while extending his earned run scoreless streak to 31 innings and his season record to 3-1.  His 61 strikeouts on the season ranks third in the nation.  This is Allen’s second Pitcher of the week honor in 2019.
Powell collected his first complete game of his career, a three-hit shutout of Old Dominion, who entered the weekend with a .297 team batting average.  He retired 10 batters in a row at one point in the game and allowed just two runners to reach second – none after the third inning.  Powell struck out six without walking a batter and forced ODU to hit into 15 groundouts in the contest. Powell, who earned his second Pitcher of the Week award this season, improved to 2-0 and saw his ERA fall to 2.12.
