DALLAS – Old Dominion outfielder Andy Garriola has been named second team Freshman All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA), the organization announced on Monday afternoon.
The California native hit .328 with 19 doubles, 10 home runs and 62 RBI in his first season in Norfolk. His 62 RBI are an ODU freshman record and the most by any Monarch since the 2011 season. Garriola joins teammates Vinnie Pasquantino, John Wilson and Kyle Battle as members of the Collegiate Baseball Freshmen All-American team, with all three of those players being selected in 2017.
Garriola’s selection marks head coach Chris Finwood’s sixth Freshman All-American honoree at ODU.
The outfielder was also selected the Conference USA Freshman of the Year and named to the All-C-USA First Team All-Conference.
